A friend of mine sent this pic he took while in Montauk last week. It looks like a tuna but it seems strange for this time of year. He estimated it to be 4-5 feet long.

. That may well be. The tail being horizontal and the backbone looks twisted to the right. They should be perpendicular to the tail.

It's a friggin small marine mammal, some sort cetacean, dolphin or porpoise... On a fish, the vertebral spines run up and down, vertically. On a cetacean, the spines run horizontally, laterally.

Yeah, caught the typo before you posted on "fish" 2X. And yes, forgot about the tunoid quad spines... I actually posted mine almost simultaneously with yours.
