No news of when or if they are stocking Long Islands Lakes with Trout? They usually announce it by now

Haven't seen the list yet, should have a list by the end of March and stocked in April/May. I heard some local rivers were stocked early with some fish to get things going, found a few holdovers myself.

Sadly you won't see me there, I'm in the army and leave alot. I will be heading back to Fort Leonardwood Missouri in less than a week and will not return to New York till May.
Good luck at the show, I think my brother will be there to represent my booth

I haven't fished for trout in 25 years. But saltwater fishing from Reynold's Channel east along south shore to Block Island has been virtually non existent this winter . The water is still too dang cold in Little Neck bay. i just read Nassau County regs and 2018 stockings for Massapequa Res and North Twin Lakes. Maybe I see some of u there this week.
I will be the googan with my God Bless America doo rag. ?CIAO, John.

If any of u bros can help me out in a PM. I have a set up I use for ultra light skinny water fluking. A Penn Conflict 1000/8 lb Power Pro Super Slick 8 . i use 8 & 10 LB fluoro and a St Croix 5 foot Ultra light fresh water rod. Is that too much for the trout? 25 years ago I used 2/4 lb Stren. i have Neoprene waders too. still use powerbaits , red wrigglers , canned corn niblets, wax worms with floats ? artificials? Any suggestions would be apreciated.CIAO, John

The rod is fine but you can go lighter if you want. I usually fish a 6 pound set up, plenty for trout and strong enough for the occasional pickerel, bass, or abrasion. Waders help depending on where you're fishing, just be wary of walking up steam since you'll stir up the bottom. Bait/artificial again depend on when and where you're fishing. Freshly stocked trout will eat literally anything. I prefer rooster tails, small jigs, and small silver floating divers. If they're more lethargic was worms are my first bet and nightcrawlers/ red wriggles are my next bet. Once they start getting wary of those baits I'll use corn. I do alot of fly fishing throughout the season as well. But honestly the most important part when considering bait and lures depends on the exact time and place. Kinda just have to get a feel for it and try different things.

Excellent. My braid is thin as 2lb mono but I will buy 6 lb fluoro. i will go with the wax worms, wrigglers or corn niblets route under a float and do trial and error as to depth and time of day. I used to use Mepps , gold phoebes, etc. They are long gone from my tackle collection. Those silver floating divers sound so cool. U ever use them for snappers? I hope the stripers show in LNB by end of this month so I do not have to wait for the April stockings or the pickerel or black bass.😉. Thank you for the heads up and pointers.? If u ever fish those Nassau waters this spring , maybe we will meet up.🙂 CIAO, John

Does anyone fish Twin Lakes in a Wantagh? I have family around there and always pass it but never fished it. Would like to take my son out.

That lake is dead. Certain groups of people fished it out entirely in order to sell to their fish markets.

I am sure they were properly licensed. And here I thought that largemouth bass in Nassau was C & R only...

I spoke with a friend that had them today somewhere in Nassau County. I'd tell you where, but he knew better than to tell me 😏
