Anybody hear of a possible “Slot Limit” or something to that effect for Striped Bass this year in New York?

There's talk again. The, ahem, competition? has an article about it:

PLAYING THE SLOTS

It's more explanation than news, however.

Haven’t heard anything official anywhere, but it’s pretty late for any major changes for 2019. It WILL hit the fan in 2020 so expect major changes to reduce the overall catch INCLUDING reducing C&R fishing.

Personally I’d love a slot. Last season I caught over 1000 stripers, but only 4 were Keepahs!!

I will have to wear a tee shirt reading "Everyone hates me" but as a devoted eater of fish, and not into trophies, I have hoped for a slot limit for years, and for fluke too. I would personally like to see one striper between 26" and 32" and two fluke between 17" and 22" (as if either will ever happen.) Slot limits have been used in freshwater for years. Saltwater enforcement will be impossible unless ICE accompanies DEC.

In order to significantly cut down the rec catch, a slot is almost mandatory, especially if they don’t have NO C&R FISHING CLOSURES.

Maine used to have a slot and I too love eating my catch. Back in those days I was guaranteed dinner whenever I went out.

Not sure I understand. C & R-only seasons still harm fish, killing some, don't they ? (Yes George, I am the guy that stops surfcasting once a keeper is landed.)

I wasn’t clear. You are correct so to reduce mortality they may enact totally closed seasons which would include no C&R fishing. Of course HTH would they enforce that??? You could always say you were bluefishing.

Wife and I do enjoy eating those blues. Really. Like I said before, they only "enforce" (read as issue a summons) people speaking english anyway.
