My OCD made me finish out opening the forums. Does anyone still make the October pilgimage? I did it for about 5 years, I think the last was 2001. It was getting crazy towards the end, saw a fistfight over a fish behind the bowling alley in town. Wasn't exactly sporting either, if you know what I mean. I think they outlawed the breakaway j-plugs right around then too, I took half a tackle box off a couple of fish. Beautiful country though.

I go every year. I go on Columbus Day after the long weekend. MUCH less crowded. I used to go for the Columbus Day weekend when I went with 7-10 people and you could kind of keep your spot. 5 or 6 would fish and we would rotate out. It was still crowded but not bad this way. As life went on fewer and fewer would make it. Now 3 or 4 of us go the Monday of Columbus Day for 3 days. It is a much more pleasant couple days.

I used to go in the dead of winter when I went to school in Binghamton. It was COLD, no salmon but the Steelhead where there. Not in huge numbers like the spring or fall but enough to hook a few fish a trip (landing them is always another story). The river would be empty. I almost lost my foot one year. We were fishing the preserve above the bridge and I hooked a steelhead. I cut my rubber wader boot on something while fighting the fish and my wader filed up. I lost the fish after 5 minutes or so. I got out of the water and I my foot was NUMB. I hobbled back to the car and went to the motel any when I took my boot off my foot was a greyish yellow. Got really lucky.
Worth heading up there in the winter for the peace and quite just dress WARM.
