Any "CHRISTMAS" Fishing Gear Under Your Tree?

I'm wondering if Santa left any fishing gear under your tree this morning...

Santa usually doesn't even bother with me because I'm too particular with my stuff - but not everyone is a lunatic like me. So many new reels on the market I have my eye on. I'm trying to keep myself in check. Then there's that "slight" custom rod addiction I'm seeing a therapist about. It's the itch that just keeps itching 😕

Anyway, I have no doubt some of you boys got some new goodies...Let's hear it.

This year Santa passed me over in the fishing gear department. However, I was the instrumental elf in assisting two friend's wives with their spouse's fishing gift choices. JW should send me a Thank You note for my holiday recommendations. 🙂

Well as it turns out, Ebay sent a 15% discount coupon last night. That and some sharp-pencil searching, and now I'm the proud owner of a brand-new Gen4 Revo Winch, the latest model, for the meager sum of $114.00 shipped. And there goes my Christmas money!

Happy New Year everyone. I purchased some new Hanukkah materials for next season's fishing. Over the last two seasons, I've moved away from fishing traditional bucktail teasers and embrassed the synthetic materials being developed for the fly tying community.

HI Harvey, welcome to NYAngler! I would compliment those new designs, but there's no need - your work speaks for itself. Gorgeous stuff!

I like getting my own gear. I usually ask for geeky stuff like Alexa’s and cameras. But the best fishing present I got was this opportunity to get back together with the people I like and back in the fisheries management seat again.

And Harvey I guess you got my address wrong because that magic teaser never ended up under the tree ?

Easily rectified. Pick one from the above pictures.

George, this was your present to us. Thank you.

BTW, I didn't get any fishing related presents.

the only fishing related gear under the tree this year was a pair of PVC booted waist waders. (Feng Sui ??) I got sick and tired of AquaSealing my Cabela's neoprene chest waders. I should be able to use these just over the waist waders in between the surfcasting in shorts and sandals weather and the need for long pants under my neoprenes. I do have to shove some sort of arch supports into the boots though. these really lightweight waders should be helpful on that last trailerboating day of the year as they come on and off much more easily.

Thanks to Santa and his little Italian Leprechaun Elf for the awesome Ghost Hunter Jigger I found under the tree on Christmas morn. Had to make the run to J&H to pair it with the new Currado 200. perfect fit

Now I have to find something else to get at the WMHS show.

George, love to see you there

Good luck with the Currado 200. I bought two and stripped the gears in both of them.

My bride gave me a few fishing related presents this year. I had mentioned that maybe I'd like to try trolling bunker spoons next year. I've seen some nice bass caught locally on them last year.

Thing is I'm not a 'trolling' type of fisherman. Never really liked dragging shad or umbrella rigs around. I actually hated it! I do like to troll tubes tipped with worms, but usually I get close to the bolder piles, cast the tube in, then troll the immediate area. Very short trolls.

My bride talked to a fishing friend of mine and under the Christmas tree was a Tony Maja bunker spoon trolling rod! Truthfully, I expected that. My plan was if I got the rod I would buy a used Penn at the WMHS show and spool it up with some wire line. I didn't want to invest heavily into this as I don't know if I'll like it yet.

Well my bride also bought me a new Penn 114h2 pre-spooled with 300' of Tony Maja wire that is marked so there is no guessing about what I have out. She also got me a couple of Tony Maja bunker spoons and a safety harness knowing that I tend to drop things. 🙄

A 'new' way of fishing for me, but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

And right on time, TAA-DAAAH! My $114.00 Gen4 Revo Winch just showed up!

Gorgeous reel, nice solid free spool thumbar click, unlike the Gen3 reels. Already have a 100MM carbon fiber curved handle and over-sized CF drag star upgrade on the way from beautiful, downtown Guangdong, China, via AliExpress. I'll add some 20lb Sufix 832 in Coastal Camo and it'll be all set to go for the fluke opener. Yipeee! How long from now is that? Oooh-Faaah!

What I’m thinking about would be to use the 100mm custom curved CF shank from the handle I just ordered from China, with a pair of grafted-on Toro round knobs. This is not something available to purchase anywhere. So as is usual with just about anything I fish with, some light engineering/fabricating will be required fo make it happen. While I do have the knobs and caps in my inventory I lack the proper extra-long knob shafts to make this happen, and those shafts are not commercially available anywhere. So we’ll see where this custom mod goes. It’ll be a good challenge. I’ll post pix when I get the job done.
