I'm NOT a guy who hides his opinion or engages in the PC culture. So, I'll just tell you how I feel and you can tell me how YOU feel...

Without a REAL structure (aka a wall) at our southern border, this country is doomed. Telling me that the United States CANNOT afford a wall is ridiculous and you'd never get me to buy that nonsense. Especially since the U.S. State Department announced on December 19, 2018 that they were pledging almost $11 Billion to help strengthen the economies of Central America & Southern Mexico (as per Breitbart).

What does that tell you about Nancy, Chuck and the Democrat Party?

Why build a wall, put those funds into documentation and structure of collection like they do to people ( taxpayers) - inside the wall.

Come on in.... name, address and here is your SS#, please make sure to pay you taxes promptly.
If your address is in another country we will invoice and charge your nation for your commitments.

Done. Problem Sovled.... Next.

Jack, does any of that address the problem of illegal drugs flooding over the border? Does it stop dangerous criminals from sneaking into our country without an invite and in direct violation of our laws? Does it stop the murder of American citizens by people that have no business being here and have been deported 4,5 & 6 times but come right back because there is nothing to stop them? Will it stop Sanctuary Cities that harbor illegal criminals and allow them to walk out of prison and right back into the population? Will it stop illegals from walking into an ER and getting treated before an American citizen? Will it teach illegals to assimilate into our culture, learn our language and adopt our way of life & Constitution?

I'll tell you what it could help them do. Vote in our elections...After breaking our laws and disregarding our sovereignty we're supposed to allow those people to now dictate how we are legislated? This is insanity. I can't think of a single other nation in this world that would allow such a thing to take place.

I don't see your logic. Help me understand.

Looks like this "WALL" topic is too scary for some people...Thought there'd be more activity here. It certainly is an important topic for the future of this country.

It's not a scary topic at all. Without a wall there is no nation and virtually no control over who comes and goes and what horrors they bring with them.
As we all know, the huge liars on both sides of the aisle have either walls and/or personal security protecting themselves and their families.
What about "We the People". We are just as entitled to being safe in our country as they are.

It "IS" scary to some people Mike. People that can't / won't have an honest discussion about protecting the sovereignty of this country. You know who they are. The same folks that think Sanctuary Cities are fine & dandy.

What goes through the minds of these people? I was hoping to find out when I started this thread but it looks like we don't have anyone willing to make their case here with us.

Sadly Eddie, you answered your own question; there is almost nothing going through the minds of these people. They cannot reason using time proven truths, only emotions. They seem to believe that nonsensical distortion of history that our nation is the wealthiest one the planet and not only can accept but is obligated to accept the poor and downtrodden from the entire rest of the world.

Folks like this refuse to accept facts and support the fantasy that all we have to do is "tax the rich more" and everything will be fine. It's a very simple math equation: if you add up the collective fortunes of all the wealthiest people in America like Gates, Steyer, Bloomberg, the Koch brothers, and even Trump and you come up with a mere fraction of the nations $23 Trillion debt! So, if you confiscated 100% of their holdings you wouldn't even make a dent in the debt. How are you going to pay for all these poor immigrants as well as our own citizens using that formula?

The scariest part to me is that these fools crying for equality fail to realize history's lesson that any form of Socialism/Communism is nothing more than a race to the bottom and the collapse of a truly free society. Yes, everyone (except a few tyrannical leaders) is equal all right...equal in their misery!

Hey Mike, I didn't know (captmike28) was you, good sir! Pleasure to be chatting with you on this topic.

My biggest fear is that "low info" moron voters will be fooled about this illegal immigration disaster by our lying Democrat Party and their Gestapo media wing. They keep peddling this "It's racist to want a border wall & keep illegals out" BS and I'm sick and tired of it. But if you're a sheep and you ONLY watch the news after Dancing With The Stars or Survivor, that is the nonsense you will be fed day in and day out. Total indoctrination of a large swath of this country that simply are too lazy to investigate the facts on these HUGELY important issues that will drastically effect this country in an un-fixable way if we don't get it under control.

The truth is, the Democrat Party has lost their minds AND they've lost the ear of the normal, everyday, working class American. They have now realized they'll need a NEW-TYPE of voter if they are to regain power...And let's be honest, all ANY politician cares about is MONEY, POWER & INFLUENCE!

We need President Trump to dedicate 1 hour, right smack in the middle of prime time TV and make a case from the Oval Office about how critical it is for us to build this wall. We need him to show it's the Dems that are causing open borders and more importantly, show the country that just a few short years ago, all these crooks (aka Democrat politicians) were FOR a secure border and a wall. His speech should be accompanied by numerous videos of Obama & Pelosi & Chuckie Boy all saying they were in favor of America's sovereignty and against this chaos that has transpired since King Obama was POTUS!

I believe that if this wall does not get built while Trump is POTUS, it might never be built. And that would be the beginning of the end for this nation.

Actually I don't think that politics should be a part of this site. It caused a lot of problems and hard feelings at Noreast.

When I was in the Navy we NEVER discussed religion or politics. It was an unwritten rule. It would be wise to do the same here.

While I was involved in many a political debate over at NE, I don't believe I ever had any "hard feelings" with any of the members over politics. Of course, I could be wrong and there might be guys from NE that hate me for my opinions / views, but I doubt it.

However, your point (Crabby) is well taken and I'm sure George has considered what made NE great and what it's weaknesses were. If he decides to remove the Political Discussion thread, I'd understand why. For now, I'm happy to discuss the "touchy" topics with the members here in a candid & civil-tongued way because I think they need to be had.

Actually Eddie, I am puzzled as to why Trump has not made a personal, nationwide appeal on this critical issue. Many others have called for it as well and there is no doubt he is quite skilled at that format. I agree with the correct support evidence, such a speech would be incredibly powerful.

I also have to say Crabby has a good point about what direction we want to take this site. Sadly, over the years I have lost a few formerly close friends due to "frank political discussions". While I never advocate putting ones head in the sand I also realize we all need an escape mechanism in order to maintain our mental health. I am convinced that for most of us Fishing is that escape and perhaps now, more than ever, that escape is just what the doctor ordered.

Obviously it is George's decision if he feels this particular type of thread is helpful or harmful to the overall mission of the forum. Personally I am happy to comply whichever way things go.

Hey Guys, and gals if there are any.

To be clear, the last thing I want our members to discuss is politics, but the hard truth is that users are going to do what they want to do, and I checked around to see what other popular boards are doing.

I am all ears here and I see all sides. If only people would treat it like Crabby suggested we wouldn't even be having this discussion. I personally am getting news-ed out and I have no plans whatsoever to come in here. I put this board here to "tuck it away" so to speak, so we can keep it on one board and away from the other boards. On noreast there simply was no way to stop it, and many people lost friendships over it, just as Capt Mike. It spread through the boards like a cancer and I thought this board would keep it localized - That's more cancer lingo :)

I know of a few other sites that have done it this way and it seems to be working OK? Most of them have just a few users flaming each other, with few views and comments.

I have been known to be wrong before, and this is more of a trial balloon, which I honestly feel is working so far. There aren't many issues more contentious than a wall right now, and it's pretty dead in here. I haven't had a single person offer to moderate it - who can blame them - and I'd be curious to see what others think.

The question is would eliminating this board result in us having these topics pop up in other boards causing disruption there? Many in the group we have now want to see this as a friendly, knowledgeable and enjoyable experience, and that's exaclty what I want.

Very well said, George. I try to be very open minded, looking at issues from a variety of different directions. It is also easy for certain topics to hit my hot button, encouraging me to blow off some steam. So, I fully understand your concept of having just one area where discussions like this can take place with the hopes it does not permeate into the main purpose of this forum

Once again, I have to agree with Crabby's comments. There are some subjects that are just too volatile to make for a pleasant or enjoyable read.
I come to this board looking to both learn something new and share my own knowledge and experiences in the fishing world. That makes the most sense to me.

I do the Facebook stuff. However mainly due to politics I "unfollowed" 75% of my "friends", although people who post anything and everything, especially those whose family and other friends I do not know or ever associate with, got "unfriended" as well. As soon as I find someone does a lot of political posting (to include fellow conservs) they are unfriended. I agree completely with Crabby and fully support any rule prohibiting political BS here. You want that, watch two TVs, tuned to CNN and Fox, simultaneously.

I leave you gentlemen with these final thoughts...

What will this country become when it's adult citizens cannot have honest open debates & discuss differing opinions in the hope that compromise can be reached? If we all just retreat to our own little foxholes and shun the responsibility that we have to communicate with each other, especially when it's difficult, how will a common goal ever be reached? How will progress be achieved? What will become of one of our greatest gifts as Americans...The freedom to speak your mind and be heard in a public setting where fellow Americans who disagree, give you the courtesy of their time. Where they consider your ideas without yelling and screaming and "unfriending" you as means to silence you from their lives.

What are we if we cannot have opposing opinions without becoming mortal enemies? We are better than that. We **MUST** be better than that!

Whatever George decides to do with this board has my 100% support. I trust he knows what's best for this site.

Savvy, I "hear" you, but political opinions on just about every website I have ever been on degenerate quickly. Can't tell you how many times I resort to "ignore" and "block." When I am on a shooting hunting fishing or boating website, THAT is what I want to be doing <grin.>
