**Cuba charges U.S. moving special forces, preparing Venezuelan intervention**

HAVANA, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Cuba charged on Thursday that the United States was secretly moving special forces closer to Venezuela as part of a plan to intervene in the South American country using the pretext of a humanitarian crisis.

A “Declaration of the Revolutionary Government” charged recent events in the country amounted to an attempted coup that had so far failed.
U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has been trying to pressure Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to step down and hand over power to Juan Guaido, the head of Venezuela’s National Assembly.

Guaido invoked a constitutional provision to assume the presidency three weeks ago, arguing that Maduro’s re-election last year was a sham.
These events, the declaration said, had led the United States to impose drastic sanctions causing damage “1000 times greater” than the aid it is trying to force on the country.

***“Between February 6 and 10 military transport aircraft have flown to the Rafael Miranda Airport of Puerto Rico, the San Isidro Air Base, in the Dominican Republic and to other strategically located Caribbean islands, probably without knowledge of the governments of those nations,” the declaration said.***

***“These flights originated in American military installations from which units of Special Operations and Marine Corps operate, which are used for covert actions,” it said.***

Venezuela, a major oil producer, is in the throes of a severe economic crisis with a dramatic drop in output and six-digit inflation wreaking havoc on the livelihoods of residents and sending an estimated three million of them searching for sustenance in neighboring countries.

Cuba has been a key backer of the Venezuelan government since what is called the Bolivarian Revolution began under former leader Hugo Chavez in 1998.
Most Western and Latin American countries, including the United States, quickly recognized Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate head of state and pledged millions of dollars in humanitarian aid in support. The aid has begun arriving along the border with Colombia and Brazil.

Maduro’s socialist government retains the backing of Russia, China and many other nations, as well as control of state institutions including the military.
***Guaido said on Tuesday the aid would roll across the border on February 23 despite the Maduro government's objections, setting up a possible confrontation.***

Cuba said on Thursday it was clear the United States wanted to “forcibly establish a humanitarian corridor under international protection, invoking the obligation to protect civilians and applying all necessary measures." (Reporting by Marc Frank Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)

very possibly

["The only way for this government to leave, unfortunately, and all of Venezuela knows it, is for there to be a direct intervention," said Sgt. Jose Gomez, a father of two. Why don't we get Sean Penn and his Looney left Hollywood buddies and Bernie Sanders and Noam Chomski, and Cindy Sheehan and all the other leftists that fell all over themselves to give BJs to Hugo Chavez to pony up all their cash to save their socialist utopia. You notice you don't hear a peep from these clowns now that it's gone the way socialism always does?

Socialism always looks good at first. But basically they're feeding the people the seed corn. Once they took over the oil industry and started robbing it the people who knew how to produce oil at a profit left town. It was already coming unbuttoned when Chavez carc'd it.

The same thing happened in Greece when it went socialist. And they didn't even have the wealth of natural resources that Venezuela did. Every one of these neo-Marxists like Chomski whizzed all over themselves about Chavez. Ask them now and they'll just give you the same "It wasn't done right" excuse. It's always the same excuse because it CAN'T be done right. I want to see Bernie go down there and show us how to do it "right" before they ruin America with their promises of free corn.

I happened to have taken two "fishing" visits into Venezuela while Chavez was in power. The country was a cesspool. This was long before oil declined. I have never seen such abject poverty in my life. Crime was rampant.

You didn't dare leave your hotel (which was protected by guards at the gates & surrounded by razor wire).
You went from point A to Point B without stopping.

Some examples:

When we arrived in the country's airport in Caracas the guide met us & we piled into two vans (there were about 20 of us). I took the front passenger seat in one of the vans. When the guide got in he took a 9mm pistol out of his waistband &put it on the dashboard handing me a baseball bat. When I asked him why. What was this for his reply was "Bandits."

We did not stop at red lights. When I asked the driver why - I got the same reply. "Bandits"

When we got to the hotel - which was the most run down Sheraton I have ever seen - there were two guard booths at each entrance to the building parking lots with armed guards at both. The entire hotel grounds were surrounded by a 6 or 8 foot wall with razor wire on top .

The hotel was on the beach. The beach was separated from the hotel & pool area by the same wall with the same razor wire. There was a gate with a guard. The gate was closed & locked at nightfall.

After one day's fishing we had caught a huge swordfish & a ridiculous amount of Mahi Mahi. We brought this back & the Captain sent it to a restaurant to have prepared and cooked for our evening meal. We all piled into the two vans again & headed to the restaurant.

The restaurant - like the hotel - was surrounded by walls, guards & razor wire.

When we were leaving the country to head back to the US - all Americans & British were told that they had to go to this "table " first. This was after we had cleared Cutoms & received our Boarding Passes. It was a card table. Sitting behind it was guy dressed in military attire. He looked at our passports again & we were told to leave $25 on a plate on the table or we couldn't proceed. He periodically cleaned the money out of the plate & it went into his pocket. In other words we had to pay this guy $25 to get out of the country.
The city - which was the capital looked like London after the blitz. Half destroyed buildings. Burned out cars. A complete mess. Twice when we were travelling in the van & it stopped - hookers would run up to the vans seeking "clients".

A second trip took place in 2000. This was about a year after [Heavy rain leads to mudslides in Venezuela]('https://nyangler.com/threads/venezuela.508/'). Ironically it was actually on today's date in 1999 when these mudslides happened killing 1000's.

A tremendous amount of international aid poured into the country because of this. Most simply went into Chavez's pocket as far as I could tell.. When we got there a year later - little had been done to clean up the city. There was mud in some instances a few feet deep in many parts of Caracas. We were told by many locals that a lot of bodies were never recovered. You could smell a slight odor of decay (human?) in the air.

I was never so happy to be out of somewhere & back to the US.

So to say *"it was working"* is the biggest misstatement I've ever heard.

Oh. The fishing? Outstanding.
Billfish Capital of the world.

However. I'd never go back..........................

Yep, Obama set that standard for OUTSTANDING VERY LOW! Worst President in our history but the media and the DemoRATS propped him up pretty good. He went into the WH as a community organizer / junior senator and now he's a multi-millionaire. Funny how he made that happen on what he was being paid.

POS scam artist is what he is.

***[U.S. calls Russia deployment of planes to Venezuela 'reckless escalation']('https://www.yahoo.com/news/pompeo-urges-moscow-cease-unconstructive-behavior-venezuela-145013258.html')***

WASHINGTON/CARACAS (Reuters) - The United States on Monday accused Russia of "reckless escalation" of the situation in Venezuela by deploying military planes and personnel to the crisis-stricken South American nation that Washington has hit with crippling sanctions.

The Russian planes and military personnel arrived outside the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday, according to local media reports, two months after the Trump administration disavowed President Nicolas Maduro.

Washington has recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's legitimate president and demands that Maduro leave power, which Russia has described as a U.S.-backed coup against the socialist government.

"The United States condemns Russia's deployment of military aircraft and personnel to Caracas, which is another contradiction of both Nicolas Maduro's and Russia's calls for non-intervention in Venezuela and is a reckless escalation of the situation," a State Department spokesman said.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in a phone call on Monday that Washington would "not stand idly by" as Russia backed Maduro, who has overseen a dramatic collapse of a once-bustling economy.

However, Pompeo did not say what the United States would do in response to Russian troops.

U.S. President Donald Trump said in 2017 that the "military option" was on the table when it comes to Venezuela, but administration officials have since downplayed talk of armed intervention.

Similar strategy used in Syria.

Couple of planes carrying "aid & advisor).
Next couple of "aid planes" had fighters flying under them to avoid radar detection & there were air defense batteries aboard the "aid" planes..

kinda makes one wonder
