MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is militarily ready for a Cuban Missile-style crisis if the United States is foolish enough to want one and that his country currently has the edge when it comes to a first nuclear strike.

Putin's comments, made to Russian media late on Wednesday, follow his warning that Moscow will match any U.S. move to deploy new missiles closer to Russia by stationing its own missiles closer to the United States or by deploying faster missiles or both.

Putin fleshed out his warning in detail for the first time, saying Russia could deploy hypersonic missiles on ships and submarines which could lurk outside U.S. territorial waters if Washington now moved to deploy intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Europe.

"(We're talking about) naval delivery vehicles: submarines or surface ships. And we can put them, given the speed and range (of our missiles)... in neutral waters. Plus they are not stationary, they move and they will have to find them," Putin said, according to a Kremlin transcript.

Coming from the same country that has an aircraft carrier with a ski ramp on the front of it and that breaks down so much they have to tow it. Yeah right.

If they’re interested in pulling a “Red Dawn” i just want to see them try. They would make it a step and we’d destroy their economy beyond repair.

Not to mention the people want everything. We have in the west.

Never did/do. I used to do business with several when I worked in Brooklyn. Old school types. They are wired to take advantage of people without even trying. It’s just their mindset from living through the Cold War I think. For someone who had little experience initially I learned extremely quick how to deal. They push until they either push you over or you stop them in their tracks.

do you recall a few years back when a group of Chechens seized a Russian movie theater taking hundreds hostage? They issued their demands. The Russians were having none of it & gassed the movie theater killing nearly everyone inside.

Yup. That’s why they have very little terrorism there. Meanwhile back at the ranch we can’t even use tried and true methods to get information out of detainees.

Ever read Blind Man's Bluff? No Russian missile sub ever got out of port without an American attack sub right up it's @$$. Not that I want to test it, but at the first sign of an issue the boomer will be dead.

if you've got a Russian sub lying off the coast with a hypersonic weapon - by the time the order is given to the attack sub to kill - that missile has already been launched & probably hit its target well before it comes under fire by a trailing American sub....

I doubt it will be perfect, but I also doubt they'll get much accomplished. And as I said, I don't want to test it.
