It is a fun time of year for me. I specialize in private 1-4 person charters and open boats for people who don't have a full crew. I have a fast, dry, comfortable boat with a full cabin and tons of fishing room. I can take more people on my porgy/sea bass trips because depth is not an issue and tangles rarely happen. I still feel like a 10 year old out there, after 15 years of chartering.
Because I trailer my boat, I can leave from the best ports that are closest to the fish. Our spring haddock starts on April 15 from Green Harbor or Plymouth. May 1 starts our porgy fishing out of Mattapoisett (one of closest ports to the fish in Buzzards Bay) and close to NYC. As you know, lots of guys do "back-to-back" dates for a double limit of porgies when they are everywhere. With good lodging close by, it's perfect.
And don't even get me started about tuna or shark fishing... That is for later.
The gear is ready; I'll have reports up as soon as the season starts.
