It's insane, the "supposed" goal is to reduce traffic in midtown. So guess what...if that works you won't be collecting all this cash from cars entering the city.
It's sort of similar to electric cars - it'll reduce our dependency on fossil fuels they say but will also reduce gas tax collections - so they'll have to figure another way to bend us over.

I agree with you Jaws about at least using the money to help the drivers that are funding this mess. What happens to all the money they collect every time they raise train fares?
Unfortuanately this discussion is missing the point. The politicians want us all to use mass transit, while they continue to ride around in their limos and create even worse traffic jams by blocking the streets when they have to get to there next super important fund raising dinner!

EX, on the #1 local line in Manhattan, northbound leaving 14th street the next stop is 18th street, the next stop 23rd street, next stop 28th street and the next stop is 34th street, ridiculous, a 110 year old design still in effect... cellfish...

Floodgates are opening, other cities including Philly, LA and San Fran considering the same option. London did it a few years ago, it may become the new "normal" of city living.
"ENJOY!!!" and add this to the Roccus List of 10,000 Reasons I Would Never Live in a City. There are many that are nice places to visit, but that's about it for me!!!

once you get south of NJ tolls pretty much vanish...............
To go to my brother's house in Richmond (170 miles) there is are two tolls - one for the CBBT ($13) & one on RT895 (25 cents). That's it. Continue south to Florida & you don't hit a damn toll the whole way unless you get on the Sun Coastal in FLorida.
If those states don't need all of those tolls to support whatever - why NY/NJ/CN?

Strangely enough, I can drive 160 miles to RI and pay 83¢ in tolls.
