Super editing job there.
It would have been better if they'd left it all communists though. Maybe find some footage of Fidel, Stalin and Pol Pot to round it out. Then it would be accurate.
except they are all dead - makes more sense current World Leaders doing this - you needed non Communists - that's the concept behind the lyrics

Well, if the concept is for every nation to turn to Marxism then yes.
obviously you are from a different generation - the idea is for all to lay down arms & co exist - if that concept is too difficult for you to understand there's not much more I can say............

I thought it was great ...... one of my favorite songs. Usually the last one on my playlist when out with friends at the pub. Always enjoy observing other peoples positive reaction when the song starts. How that could be associated with Marxism is beyond my ability to comprehend.
Thanks for posting it Wader. (y) (y)

Imagine is Marx set to music in a Rodney King "Can't we all just get along?" wrapper.
Actually pay attention to the words. No religion. Opiate of the masses anyone? No possessions = No private property. We all just share in one big happy commune. No countries = one big socialist republic.
In the '50s Communists used to define "peace" as global communism. It was kind of a code they used to deceive their opponents. "All we want is peace."
Like most songs with controversial content it's intentionally somewhat subjective. It gives the artist plausable deniability. But the fact then Lennon was a supporter of the International Marxist Group in the UK and numerous other Communist front peace movements pretty much shows you what was on his mind.

This is my belief and I based my comment accordingly:
**"Was John Lennon inspired by Karl Marx and/or Marxism in the song "Imagine"?**
I don’t think so, the ideas expressed by Lennon in Imagine about a world without countries, no religions, with everybody living in love and peace are not exclusive of Marxism, they are part of all the social movements seeking for a better future for humanity. Note that Lennon's stance against religion is not from an atheist point of view, he was deeply spiritual and was only deploring the divisive role of religion in society. And his opposition to Marxists is clear in the phrases from his Revolution 1 song:
**… but if you want money for people with mind that hate, friend then you know you will have to wait…
… if you are carrying pictures of chairman Mao, boy you know you can count me out… "**

little wrong on the lyrics I beleive:
*if you want money for people with minds that - all i can tell you brother is you'll have to wait
if you go carryin' pictures of Chairman Mao - you ain't gonna make it with anyone any how*
The count me out actually follows:
*But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out *
Being a Beatle fan for oh 60+ years now I also envisioned the song in the same light as you John.
Yes.
He was a Peace Activist.
Did he look into Marx?
Certainly.
Lennon looked into a lot of things.
Some he discarded.
Others he took parts of & made them his own.
His IQ was estimated to be around 140 or borderline genuis.
He questioned all things & had little respect for authority.
He never took anything at face value............

Thank you Mr. wader.
It's pretty clear that most people don't actually listen to the words.
"Imagine there's no heaven.
It's easy if you try.
No hell below us.
Above us only sky."
Sounds like a true believer to me.
Thank you Mr. wader.

that is a nonbeliever's stance..........................
No heaven/No hell
Nothing below - nothing above.
