haven't started up the boat yet but have talked to others while kayaking half a dozen times in the last 2 or 3 weeks and the consensus is that fluking has sucked so far in this area. I did get this 25" this morning, the only bite for me and never saw the nearby boaters use a net. One short while paddling five miles yesterday makes this lady fluke a stroke of luck today. It took a green Gulp shrimp on a homemade buck. I am thinking this post belongs in the kayak fishing forum ( ? )

Nice fish. I bounced from Flax Pond to Crab Meadow. A bunch of shorts. So far on 6 trips I caught 8 keepers with 6 taken on one tide. So Ive had a good bite for about an hour! Traditionally this is one of my best weeks of inshore fishing. I hope he tradition continues.

Would gladly trade one 25" for even just 3 keepers. I hope that this season down here isn't as bad as last year. Very few, from what I have gleaned, had more than just a few keepers, and even the number of shorts last year seemed less than the norm. Some will differ, but I trust the guys at Causeway and especially Bill Wichey at Combs and they said the same as a couple of my neighbors who are true sharpies, that last year stunk. I even had a hard time catching snappers for the barbecue last year compared to usual. After Sandy I expected a decline, which we got, but so many years later ?

Got my 3rd keeper of the year, 1 each day since Saturday off the yak, and a "just made it" weak this morning. Matzahpizza may finally be starting to see some fluke.

Skunked this morning but only had time to put two hours in during the incoming. Nice thing about yakking- don't feel committed to spend the day like when I use the boat. I need to add the sad fact that besides 3 keeper fluke, two of which just made it, and a single 16" weak, I have only caught one sea robin and three short fluke. Maybe I will see more action if I get the boat wet.

In 11 paddles, have come home with three fluke and three weaks. Considering I only paddle from about 8am to 11am, fish exclusively with Gulp, and only locally, I consider myself fortunate and hate to admit that is already more keepers than I had in 2018. Some really crummy weather coming up if one can trust the forecasts. still haven't readied our boat.

6 shorts this morning, and no weaks. Most gulp, whether curly tails, shrimp or sandworm, are being bitten off by very small mouthed fish. too soon for snappers but that is what the bites are like size-wise. no hint of a hit, despite light braid, 5/8 buck and a good rod.

Porgy or Bergalls probably.

both very rare in my neck of the woods. Would love to think porgies are back around here. Nearer to the bridges maybe. I was wondering if it was blowfish or runt size cocktails.

With all of the porgies around I'd guess it's those bait stealers.

Idk. I haven’t caught a porgy in matzohpizza since the early 80s

blowies will do half-circle punches out of your gulp. My guess is porgies as well, slim chance they're not in your neck of the woods. They are everywhere!
