After working on the boat for the last 3 weeks, finally got to splash it last Saturday.
My younger son and I launched the boat out of Milford Harbor Ct.

Headed out to run to can 7 off of hearod point Long Island.
I bought a new Lowrance Hook2 9TS and the unit was not functioning correctly, GPS worked fine no bottom or temp.
I had to buy 10' extension for the transducer in order to mount it where I wanted it, the connection inside the cabin was not pushed in all the way, one that was done she came to life, what a great unit, so off we head to our destination.

It was overcast and foggy , but we were spot on with the new chartplotter, we arrived about 9:20am and started to drift, had a nice drift and we hooked up immediately with 2 shorts, a few minutes later my son catches a 19.5 keeper but we let it go.
I don't think we were there more than 20 minutes when my son spotted a boat coming at us, yep you guessed it, coast guard, they pulled up alongside and asked permission to come aboard, but before they would come aboard they asked if we had any weapons on board, I'm glad I went over my pre inspection the night before, I must say that it was a pleasure talking and dealing with them, they just came out of New Haven Ct. We passed inspection with flying colors and now I have an inspection sheet, so I should be good for the year, if not no big deal, they are just doing their job, first trip of the year and I get boarded, what are the odds. lol
Back to the fishing, the bite which wasn't all the great and died off, we picked away at fish for the next few hours, we both had about 2 shorts ea. after the coast guard showed up, all the other boats headed for the hills so we were all alone.
We decided to head towards Port Jeff to see if anything was going on over there, on our way over we spotted all the PB from PJ fishing for porgies, I'm not a porgie kind of guy so we headed over to can 9 where we picked away at a few more, we took a lunch break and headed back to can 7, we fished till 6pm, really worked hard for 2 keepers, in all we caught 30 fluke, 1 cocktail blue.
Seems like the fish just haven't moved in yet. We will be out again this coming weekend.
We got back to Milford around 7pm, with all the work I did on my Yamaha 200 hpdi, the motor is running great.
I will upload pics as soon as I transfer them from my phone.
on a side note, I was using my new shimano tranx 200, as there were no reasonably sized fish to be had, my opinion of the reel is still withstanding, I like the feel and the smoothness but time will tell, I also have a couple more reels to try out.
Ok , I said enough. sorry for the long post, my next ones will be shorter, promise.
Tight lines .

Great report!

I have been using my Tranx 200 this year too. Caught a five and six pounder with it. Darn nice reel! I think it would be perfect in Montauk fluking and deep sea bass fishing. (also ideal for blackfish)

I will continue to use it, but this weekend I'm breaking out the ol' Curado 200 e5 ;)

Thanks, I have a couple of reels I need to try out, one being the Revo 4 beast and Daiwa coastal TWS.
Montauk is the proving grounds for a lot of reels for sure, I am trailering my boat to R.I. this year, may shoot over to Montauk while i'm there.
