Ran a ¾ day charter today for my most loyal customers Sal and Frank looking mainly for Fluke. With the steady east wind pattern, I suggested a late start to catch the majority of the flood tide. Headed back to Orient Harbor where I nailed 4 nice keepers to 4.5# in 2 hours on Friday afternoon. The action for 3 hours effort was a little slower today but we still did land 3 keepers with the top fish being a solid 7# beauty.
Knowing the Bass bite was strong to the east I suggested rather that tough out the last half of the tide on Fluke we change tactics and target the Bass. It was the right call as the last 90 minutes of flood produced 10 nice Bass with 4 keepers, ORL. The size class today was much better than previous trips this spring with all the keepers being over thick, fat, and over 30”. The top fish was nearly 35” long, a solid 20# class Striper.
A very enjoyable day for all, plus certainly some of the best quality fish we have seen this season so far.
