Had the Mike/Bruce party out yesterday for a combo summer trip. They were one of this year’s lucky winners at the WMHS Show. Started out with the reliable Sea Bass bite in the Sound and about 2 hours effort produced a nice limit for the four-person crew to 3 #. Squid Heads and Gulp baits accounted for the larger fish.

Next moved over to the Gut looking for Striper action on the end of the flood. Managed 4 short Bass pretty quickly before the bite shut down. Mike also took a 5.5# Blue, which seem to be curiously rare this year, so far.

With the bite tapering off and the crew desperate for any Fluke action we finished the trip with 90 minutes inside Orient Harbor. We landed 8 or nine short Fluke and only a single 19” keeper so at least we avoided a Fluke shutout.

Everyone’s hoping that the now entrenched summer weather will heat up the Fluke action across the island. We shall see what the next round of trips this week.
