Hi there Partyboat fishing fans...
Well today my buddy Pete & I went out on the ole' HelCat, seeing as from the 4th of July till Sunday would be total chaos on ANY Partyboat so we decidied to go today to avoid the crowds.
We were correct, counting us 2 there were ONLY 16 people on board. What beautiful day to be out on the water too, so we had high hopes of a good trip after we found out they were sailing to Montauk!!!
First stop was a few miles from Montauk where all we caught was short sea bass & all sized porgies (well I caught zero porgies all day!!!) Pete caught a windowpane flounder which was nice but we sent it back to grow bigger.
After staying there for quite awhile the Captain decided to GO TO Montauk. That's when I thought things would finally pick up, and pick up they did.
We were in the area where the water turns like a sand color & kinda shallow maybe 45-60 feet? Then the fluke turned on like a pack of firecrackers, everybody on the boat is hooking up with fluke. Unfortunately 99.9% were all shorts. Stayed in that area for the rest of the day then it was just as if someone flipped the switch & everything just shut down.
So I had zero keeper anything, Pete ended up with 2 keeper sea bass & 2 good size porgies.Pool fish was a 5.5 lb fluke. All in all even tho the fishing wasn't what I had hoped for it was still a GREAT DAY "On The Water"
So until next time, stay tuned...
