With all the great tuna reports my son and I decided to give it a go. Left the dock the afternoon before and headed to where all the action has been? Several miles to the west we find lots of whales and jumping tuna. Rather than leaving fish to find fish we drop anchor just before dark all by ourselves , with several scallop boats keeping us company during the night. Tons of squid and sand eel life around all night while chunking and I told my son to rest up because I had a feeling the fish would start chewing about 1 hour before sunup. Sure enough 4 am he hooks up a fat 75 lb class BFT on a flat lined squid and for the next two hours it was all out mayhem. We landed and broke off several fish from 50-100 and just kept two 50 lb class for the table.
After sunrise the chunk bite stopped and we got up on the troll, again nite nice fish in the troll and fast as we could set the spread out. Dropped a jig down while my son was reeling in a fish and bam fish on! Turned out to be the biggest one of the trip at 150 plus! And wow what a battle ! We released that magnificent fish and jigged up several more 59-75 on fish until we were too tired to fish anymore.
I’m so happy my son got to experience tuna fishing like the good old days he hears so often about about.l and so. Glad we decided to stay away from the crowds. it A trip that will be remembered for a very long time by the both of us.
Interesting part was when we were jigging there were giant ocean gorilla blues on the surface above the tuna. There were also some very mage sharks feeding on the blues as well and if you reeled them in too slow , the tax man took his cut! ?

Good story, getting away from the crowds defines who you are. A Fisherman !! Fishing in fleets is way overrated as far as im concerned. Especially when fishing Tuna, you need a little wiggle room. Fishing on a good day with a good bite And with your Son, Win Win. (y)
