My buddy Paul and I took advantage of today’s excellent conditions to return to Montauk for some steady Fluke action. Started at my deep drops where I had a quick limit to 8.5# ten days ago and once again the bite was hot for the first 90 minutes. Put 4 beautiful Fluke from 5-7# in the box along with a 17” Sea Bass before the drift picked up steam and forced a move. Fish today showed a decided preference for the big Gulp worms except for one 6# fish that fell for a Fluke strip/spearing combo.
Headed inshore a couple of miles and once again found a steady bite filling our limit of Fluke with 4 more fish to 5.5# and another keeper Sea Bass among many more shorts.
In preparation for my upcoming charter this Sunday I also spent an hour at the start of the Flood at the Elbow and also found a steady Fluke bite there although the fish during that brief window were al shorts, except for one last 21” Sea Bass.
It seems that Montauk summer Fluking is finally hitting its stride. If you want to cash in on this excellent fishing now is the time to book your trip.
