couldn't find my old thread but wanted to get some opinions (again.) the photo is of what was a four inch grub. Never felt the bite (or others similarly de"tail"itated) despite using light braid, 3/4 oz buck and a sensitive rod in fairly shallow (10-20'). Mind you, I have not heard of a porgy being caught right off Massapequa in 20 years and I am miles from the bridges. This started occurring in June so probably not snappers.
while fluke and weaks, keepers and shorts, seemed to prefer pink for me this season, the biteoffs are "color optional."

There are tons of 1 to 2 lb blues, I had the same problem a few weeks ago, I finally nailed one, thought I had a good size fluke. lol

?? However every bitten off curly tail has the same look, like a knife sharp bite, not ragged like a crab will make on a defrosted spearing (which I haven't used in over a decade.) I think its a fish and am tempted to tie in a small hook to a tail but don't want to gut hook a short. Such a conundrum <grin>.

Yeah , I had good experience with those bite offs. It’s alway below the metal and I do think it’s mostly crabs ?. Fish would swallow the hole hook... sea robin strip is tougher... cellie...

Been seeing a lot more blowfish in last year or so. They have been nibbling my GULPs like crazy.

love eating cocktails. But I haven't even felt the majority of these bite offs.
I still say it's little blues, I don't know of any other fish that small with that kind of bite mark, outside of squid , i'm at a loss.

its BLOWFISH and just like the last couple of years them little buggers will sell more Gulp than any internet fishing report can.Last year in moriches your gulp did not last more than a few minutes before it looked like that.

I believe that FlounderJoe is exactly right. Blowfish. They devastated Moriches last year at this time and it was a mystery then too. Nobody could keep Gulp on their lines without it getting chewed to bits, but guys weren't landing anything.
