***What a disaster, my younger son and I trailered my boat to R.I. for some fluke and striper fishing.
First off, I should have paid attention to the weather forecast which I obviously didn’t.
Worked On the boat and trailer all week to make sure all was fine, pulled the wheels and checked the brakes, greased and tested.
We set out early Saturday morning left at 2:45 am arrived at the boat ramp in Narragansett at 4:30am, just in time to beat the rush, we no sooner had the boat in the water when a bunch of people showed up.
So were on our way out to the west wall, wind was kicking a little and fog had rolled in, patchy at first then got worse.
Headed out the west wall and headed to the east tip of Block Island, it was supposed to be 2 to 3 footers, but there were some 5 footers in there, made it to the east tip and started drifting for fluke, I hooked up with fluke right away and was just shy of a keeper.
Then the fog rolled in and visibility was a hundred feet, maybe, I don't like the fog, not having radar I have to rely on my GPS which doesn't tell me something is in front of me, we sat for 30 minutes waiting and still fishing, drift was picking up and 4 oz would not hold bottom, my son was getting c bass and tossing them back, it was about that time that a boat came within a few yards of us that I decided it was time to head back to Point Judy, I started the engine up and it sounded bad, like not running on all cylinders.
I put it in gear and sure enough it would not go over 2500 rpms, the motor ran great all this year and now it decides to crap out.
12 miles from Point Judy and I'm prying we will make it back, and to top it off it's getting worse fog and water, I was white knuckled hoping we would not have to call boat USA to come get us, it took what seemed to be an eternity to get back in.
My son was worried about me and tried to make light of the situation; it wasn't working lol.
We made it back and successfully loaded the boat on to the trailer.
Our original plan was to fluke all day and then hit the rips off B.I. for bass, I purchased 2 dozen eels , all released because with the motor not running I had no means of or use for them, I would have given them to someone but no one was around when we came back in.
We decided to head home and stopped to top my truck off.
On the way home we hit traffic everywhere and then it poured making it even harder, not to mention the idiots that cut me off and put me at a greater risk because I was trailering a 25-foot boat.
We left R.I. around 10: 30 am got home 2 pm, backed the boat in my driveway and let out a sigh of relief.
We started unloading the boat when my Son noticed the clear plastic window on my canvas was hanging by a thread and the rest of the top was torn everywhere, so, now I have a motor that can't go over 2500 **rpms** I need to purchase a new top.
BY the way it's up for sale, give you really good deal. Lol***

Glad it all worked out safely in the end.
A good reason why I'm loath to ever trailer my boat. Once in come spring, and once out come fall is all the white knuckling I can take in a season.

Just got done working on the motor, found a switch on the linkage that was faulty, moving the shift lever back and forth solved the problem, but i ordered a new switch, I took off the old one and when the switch arrives I will hook it up.
Mojo, your right, it's always something?
Roccus, I always trailer my boat, just something i've always done, that's why I check my trailer and maintain on a monthly basis.
I was concerned for my son more that I was for myself, I was afraid to shut the motor off in fear it would not start again, but that's all it would have taken to fix the problem, who knew, just found out today that switch is problematic in the HPDI's, so all is good again.

That was quite a story. We've all been there at one time or another, and like you mentioned everyone's fine as you made it back safely. There are a lot things that can go wrong and something usually does.
You did everything right and now you have a great story to tell!
