Seriously depressed here, as for the last three years I've been catching through 1st week of October. Last year, my first skunking since the fish moved in late in May was in the 1st week of October! This year it seems that the main body of fish here left for Southern environs right after the full moon of August when my daily catches dropped from double digits to singles, including many 2 or 1s. I had 3 skunkings in August and only 126 fish, with no keepers, but most over 20". The only redeeming feature is I'm usually good for one mid-20s fish now.

Went out last evening and managed only 1, 24" fish with another couple of hits and a couple of splashes. I even went to the "Dark Side" by dragging a worm 'n tube rig for 30 min with no joy. My internal Better Angels told me to stay in bed this morning, but I was out there at 06:00 only to cast for an hour with maybe one follow. *Morone saxatilis* has definitely "left the river" en mass in my neck of the woods... Dang, WTH am I going to do until Cod on the 15th??

There is no shortage of bass in my neck of the woods. Things are setting up nice in the Smithtown Bay area. There are also a bunch of small blues around.

Think I'll visit the Senior Skinner brother on the North Fork late September...
