Over the past 7 years I made it a rule NEVER to travel more than 1 nmi from my dock to catch stripers. Well I changed that to a "Guideline" today to head over to the next river and hit a spot 8 nmi from the dock. It was a good call, 3 fish including my season's best, a 32" "Keepah"!! And look, I wasn't even using my old standard "Striper Strike" popper!!
Yeah, I'll be there tomorrow AM. Rules, we don't need no stinking rules!!

You have a nice rig ! Put some hours on that Yamaha !
I propose a change to the old rule. The new rule should be:
..... NEVER to travel more than 12 nmi from my dock to catch stripers.
Here is another : Fish at least 3 new areas each season.
What made you change to the white super fluke ?

A summer resident Tarheel, who I fish with once in a while, told me about that and today's spot. It's rigged Texas style with no weight so you really need to boat fish with it. You should see his rig, it is amazing, a 21' flats boat with a "hold in place" electric motor.
Think I'm going to take down the 20th Maine Flag from the boat and hoist up a Confederate Battle Flag!!
I did return the favor though, gave him the numbers of my best cod spots, although he was confused when I told him not to use the flats boat. "Don't I have to stay right on top of a specific spot?" "No, you drift up the hump and then down off of it. Drift is good. Besides, you don't want to be on your flats boat if there's any sort of swell and/or chop out there."
