After a beautiful Saturday afternoon where I enjoyed lights out Sea Bass fishing and my 7 fish limit achieved in about 45 minutes, I awoke to a gray windy Sunday morning. Just in time for a half day charter with the Richard family.
Fortunately, the Porgy fishing in the Peconics is still quite strong so we found a calm spot to drop the anchor, lower the chum pot, and proceeded to just wail on the Porgies and small Sea Bass. It was literally “drop and stick” action for the entire 3 hours we sat on a favorite piece of bottom. Many double headers were landed and the kids all had a terrific time. In fact, 8y/o Ephram, on his first fishing trip ever, landed many Porgies plus the bonus catch of the day, a 4# Triggerfish that had him struggling to land this very spirited fish. That’s the way to turn an enthusiastic young boy into a lifelong fisherman!
I placed my order for the first bushel of green crabs this morning as we all anticipate Friday’s opening of Tog season. Of course, the long -range forecast for Friday is already calling for a ton of wind. What else is new. Still, we all know there will be many fishable days for those who have flexible schedules so get ready for a great Blackfish season and give me a call soon to book your favored dates.
Tight lines and tasty Tog coming up soon!!!
