Late report here.
Went out yesterday with my younger son who was a little under the weather.
Plan was to head over to middleground light and scout for tog, brought along the bass rigs just in case.
Headed over to MGL about 8am, arrived around 8.30am, put the hammer down hoping to the clean the engine out, hasn't run wide open all summer.
We anchored and drifted most of the day not really finding any tog, lotsa of boats out there including 3 of the PF fleet.
It was mostly porgies and c bass most of the day with an occasional cocktail blue thrown in for good measure.
Took a ride out to the drop off where the Celtic Pride was on the hook just to see what was going on, c bass and porgies.
My son spotted a school of bunker and something was on them, I took my spinning setup and casted an epoxy jig over the school and just cranked right threw the school snagging a bunker which really wasn't a surprise, but what was a surprise was how that bunker turned into a 10lb bluefish, so my son says to me, let me get this straight, you cast into a school of bunker, snag one and then catch a 10lb blue, that's f'ed up.
After the battle with the bluefish, we headed back over and anchored up to the east, was using my side scanner and saw a spot that I thought was good so we dropped the hook, tide was ripping pretty good, it took awhile but all I could manage was 2 nice tog which I released, it just didn't happen for us, didn't see anybody else catching either.
Headed for the barn around 5.30pm, ran into another school of bunker a few miles off of Milford, this school was definitely getting harassed, so my son snagged a bunker and let him run, sat for a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, nothing doing, my son couldn't buy a fish yesterday.?
It was low tide at the ramp which made for an interesting loading of the boat. All is good tho, next week will try again.
