Yesterday’s fine weather and lighter tides was the key to a return to the red-hot Tog action we have been experiencing this season. Had the 4-man John crew out for a solid bite all day on my Fisher’s I. drops.

Since this crowd loves to jig, we started the morning in the 40’ shallower spots and were greeted with instant action. First a nice 4# fish hits the deck followed by a couple of thick 3# specimens. For the first time this season the small cunners were a bit pesky but with a few drop back moves on the anchor we worked around them managing to put 6 nice keepers in the box for a little over an hour’s time.

As the tide began to slack off, I repositioned the boat to one of my deeper spots in 70’ of water and once again we enjoyed steady action. Sorting through some smaller fish we kept a steady pace towards reaching our full boat limit by 12 noon. At one point the shifting tide moved us off a prime location so I re-anchored and that move wound up giving up the best fish of the day for Ricky, a beautiful fat Tog of just a shade under 8#. We also had a nice bonus of 9 keeper Sea Bass to 3# join the party along the way.

Since it was still early and I had a bunch of fish to clean I took the guys back to the shallow water so they could play C&R with the jigs while I went to work. Overall, we must have thrown back close to a second limit during a really fun day of solid Tog action. Cruised home on a near glassy LI Sound to cap off another great trip for my long-term customers.

Still some dates open if you want to get out before the end of this month so check my other posts or give me a call to cash in.
