Clamming.

Anyone do any winter clamming. Most of my shore bound spots open Oct 1st. Been really hitting it good. Filling my allotment with ease. Steamers n razor clams is my main target. I get an occasional hardshell but usually they are in a different area.

Did you ever try the Kosher salt trick w/Razors? I have tried with no amount of success...
The salt thing is a west coast gimmick. Never worked for me here. Plus I prefer the workout using the plunger. Keeps my arms, shoulders and back in shape for archery.

Is that made specifically for that purpose or are improvising from its intended purpose??
Looks cool

I saw one video from Cape Cod that had the razors popping out of their hole quickly. Although we don't know how many holes they salted to get the few in the video. At least now I don't feel so badly...

It is specifically made for clamming. It pulls a column of mud out.>

I'm finding this quite interesting
In my teens and early 20's I was a commercial clammer- admittedly part time in the summer months but I was a treader. No rake, just my feet. Spent many days of my youth jumping off a boat and clamming that way as well digging "piss clams" by hand in the mud on flats
To this day I still do it the same way with only my hands and feet so I'm kinda caught between being interested in how to do it with "tools" and thinking I don't need no stinking tools cause I still do fine with my 50+ year old feet and hands

And were there clams in there?
Yup. Never heard of anyone on Long Island successful with doing that way. Clamming commercially for over 20 years.

I also use my feet for hardshells. Always. Only raked when I commercially dug. Steamers on the other hand is a little more time consuming. Plus in the winter months, like now, they are down over 18" and that mud is cold. I can fill a pail in about 45 minutes no problem.

I am definitely going to try that clam gun
I can brag all I want about digging piss clams by hand but truth be told it takes a beating on the fingers tips and you always end up with cuts and blood digging that way
I had no clue there was such a gizmo so thank you ? for sharing?
