Due to staffing shortages Dept of Commerce head Howard Lutnick has still not approved regs that effect our whole coast. Some states need this in place for Friday May 1st. NJ and Maryland have urgently escalated this looming mess that will impose fed coastwide measures in lieu of what the states voted for. Any NY updates? The attached doc explains what's looming....

So I understand, if new regulations are not in place, last years regulations prevail? I assume they will be here: https://dec.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2024-04/recreationalsaltwaterfishinglimits.pdf

This morning, NOAA announced that tomorrow they will publish the Emergency Rules that will enable the use of per cent change management along with Conservation Equivalency. That means that effective 4/30/26 the regulations put forth by the Atlantic States will take effect. Thanks for staying tuned in....

Revised Delaware recreational black sea bass regulations now applicable for anglers when fishing in state and federal waters
DNREC revised recreational fishing state regulations for black sea bass to reflect a greater abundance of the species for anglers to catch. After federal regulatory action this week, the same regulations will apply to Delaware anglers starting May 1 whether fishing in state or federal waters.

Under conservation equivalency, Federal coastwide measures are waived in favor of state- or region-developed measures. The states or regions have developed minimum sizes, possession limits, and fishing seasons that, in combination across all participating states, will achieve the necessary level of conservation.
Individuals seeking information regarding the measures for individual states should contact the marine fisheries agency in the state of interest.
I guess I’m being dense. But what does that mean for LI fisherman? Does anything change? Whom can we call at the marine fisheries agency to see?
