I see another NYA never had shrimp w/ RICE.. so rather than just saying try my favorite Rice, it would be nice and interesting if others would share their favorite Rice here...
I luv this Basmati Rice from da Himalayas, flavorful, lite, delicious, quick to cook too... unfortunately Brown Rice is most healthy... cellie...

I mix several varieties together into a pseudo looking glass milk bottle with cp & shake 'em up. Rice varieties generally are:
Royal Rice Blend from Royal Rice - Texmati White, Long Grain, Wild & Red Rice
Classic Quinoa (which I don't think is actually a "rice" - says ancient grain on the package)
Abororio Rice (Italian Rice used for Risotto)
BAsmati
and a little Couscous (which is not a rice) for texture
Put a little salt or Garlic Butter in the pot as the water boils. Rice absorbs it when dded to the water Dynamite.

What no fans of that uniquely Native American grass seed, Wild Rice?? I adore it when I can afford it...
And of course due to my lineage, there's always Arborio Rice for risotto and paella.

For making "rice" as a side dish, I'm with Mud on Asian rice, I go Japanese, can't remember which brand, but I got a sack of it. It's also used when I make sushi or serve with sashimi.
With Indian food, Basamati rice of course.
Haven't bought American Long Grain Rice in years. On the scale of International Cuisine, Long Grain Rice is considered as HORRID as the Equine Renal Equine canned by the Large American Breweries...
