Smith Haven Jeep Chrysler

Sounds like a long time to fix to me but shorts can be tricky
batts 5 yrs old they go bad hot do they now theres a short?

anyone know much about this dealership? Son bought his 2015 Challenger new at Merrick Dodge but his battery died at his Kings Park job Monday night. Took them until Tuesday morning to tow it in. Now they are claiming that besides the new battery there is a short that will kill the new battery and they need 2-3 weeks to fix it. When it walks like a duck...?


I bought my first Cherokee there. No issues.

When I purchased my latest vehicle, my mechanic said buy anything but Dodge, they have horrible electrical issues often.
Good luck, my brother has been a customer of that dealership without issue for years.

Hindsight is 20/20. I think he got adequate mileage out of the battery- it just died. Son wanted to bring it to his uncle's favored local shop but they were already closed for the night.
since a jump didn't take he thought closest Chrysler dealer. The "short" sounds a bit fishy, and maybe they do have appointments backed up 2-3 weeks. He now wants to see if it runs and bring it back to our guy in Matzohpizza.

Did they put a battery in it? if so did they check the charging system?

New battery is in. God and a mechanic only know what else was done, aside for alluding to a "short" that they told my son could ruin the new battery ( ? ) Its unfortunate but the car was dead after hours in Kings Park, and he decided the best bet was the closest dealership. They didn't even come for it until the next morning. Car was purchased at Merrick Dodge and any service needed after warranty done by our local mechanic who I have used since the 1970s.

No experience with that particular dealer but overall not a fan of dealers for service at all
Had some less than great experiences over the years when dealing with them for warranty work
If it were me I'd try driving it to a trusted local shop

That is what my son intends to do. Hopefully meeting him tonight at our local shop here in Matzohpizza. Even though we have always bought new, unless its a warranty repair I NEVER bring our vehicles back to a dealership, any dealership.

Thanks for all the advice. (Everyone.) He had it flatbedded yesterday to the mechanic we have used in Matzohpizza since the 1970s. It won't take 2-3 weeks with our guy. I have to ask my BIL who lives in Smithtown albeit down off Vets towards the Commack side who he was hoping my son would have gotten too. (It was closed by 6 however.)

BTW, my son felt that everyone at the Chrysler place seemed OK, its just who can wait 2-3 weeks ?

So why couldnt he drive it? instead of flat bedding it

Shaven stated that there was a short in the system. (Funny, wasn't there before...) and that it would ruin the new battery. (allegedly) As I said, my son is in Kings Park for his job, and its not as a vehicular mechanic. Our mechanic back here won't charge dealership rates, has all the electronic diagnostic equipment, and won't take 2-3 weeks. Son had some choices to make, including whether to trust the dealership, and how best to spend his money. Personally, if the vehicle was running (and there seems to be some conflicting statements there) I would have driven the thing to Matzohpizza. The battery costs twice the tow charge, again, choices to be made, provided one believes the dealership saying that the short could ruin the new battery. He loves the car but its hopefully going to wake him up. I have not had a rear wheel drive car since 1980, sedans and coupes are useless to me, and have owned nothing but AWD and 4WD since the early 2000s.

You said there was a short I was curious how they came to that conclusion with a 5yr old battery that died

Hopefully my guy will have an answer.
