being a downtown resident and on September 11, my wife and both agree we wanna be away from here... so rather than hassling wit the car, I thought taking a subway ride to Astoria in the afternoon for a reasonable place to eat and take a walk along the waterfront... anyone know of a place to stop for eats; there are so many open doors, let me know... cellfish...

As for Waterfront walking there are 3 choices. Astoria Park, Roosevelt Island and Gantry State Park in Long Island City. If you want to combine the eating and walking you have two choices. Gantry State Park; there are bars and restaurants in the area on Vernon Blvd. Unfortunately I am not familiar with them.
The other choice, and in my opinion the best waterfront walkway is Roosevelt Island and you can get ther via the Tram from 60th Street. Very scenic ride. There are also restaurants on the Islands. Unfortunately cannot make any eating recommendation.
Have fun.

Taverna Kyclades is a local favorite.
Telly's taverna is my favorite.
Both greek.
Christos steakhouse never disappoints.
There's a small Greek taverna on Ditmars right on the edge of Astoria Park. Haven't been there in a while but they specialize in fish. 1 block from the water.

Something tells me Tony has no problem finding a good meal!
Astoria has some really good Greek supermarkets as well. The best FETA cheese you can get.
Titan on 31st between Astoria Blvd and 23rd Ave is well stocked with all the high carb, bad for you stuff we crave

what did u have… ???
I had swordfish kabobs. My future bride had grilled shrimp. We split a grilled octopus appetizer. He son and his fiancé shared the Chilean Seabass. Since we were running late, they both had a few appetizers before we got there. Everything was very good.
Restaurant was beautiful. They had real outdoor dining out front in addition to the "temporary" woodshed taking up the parking spots in the street. Free parking at a commercial lot about 100 yards down the street, free as long as you get your ticket stamped after dining.
