My parents both sailed here on different ships in 1949, and met and married in NYC.
My mom 1st went to London taking care of the sick and wounded from ww2.

Three of her sisters (my aunts) went to London before her and spent their lives as Nuns/nurses in hospitals taking care of the sick and wounded

Soon after marriage the U.S. was nice enough to offer to pay for my Dad to see Korea

my mom spoke Gaelic...she had 13 brothers and sisters (no twins)

i was born here but went back to Ireland at 6 weeks old...spent a few months and came back to NYC and the "legend" began

Great Grandmother immigrated from County Cork at the age of 14 by herself. She took jobs cleaning peoples houses saving up money to bring her sister over. Both settled in Brooklyn.


This is Her (on the left) with her daughter (my grandmother) & my uncle on 24th Street in 1942:

This is her & her sister Alice as toddlers back in Cook. Idon't have a date for this one but my great grandmother lived to 102 passing away when I was a pre-teen. So that would have been around 1964. So this could be late 180conceivably be late 1800's (?):

About as Irish as eating corned beef, ALTHOUGH when living in Ireland just about the only US flavored cereal like Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, etc. that you could find in the local shoppes were Lucky Charms!!
