I found them in my back and front yard. There is a lot of them. I have mostly oaks and a few maple trees. But the oaks make acorns and the maple trees the little propeller seeds.

Someone told me they were hornet eggs. But there are hundreds of them and if you cut them open they a have a reddish interior and green center. Pics attached to give you an sense of scale.

They are the egg cases for some wasp "Cotton Ball Wasps". Very common in oaks.

Cute, but not setting my backyard up in flames. ;)

Actually, I was doing some reading and the wasps are predatory for insects and never bite or sting humans. Maybe a good thing?
