One of the interesting hypothesis is Panspermia, which posits that the building blocks of life are spread through the universe by cosmic dust, on asteroids, meteors etc...

It is interesting and some variation of Pseudo-Panspermia may eventually be the eventual answer. As more organisms like Tardigrades that can withstand the rigors of outer space are catalogued, there will be more hypotheses to test.

Mike Rowe narrarated a terric episode on this just the other day. Stars building and exploding over millions of years creating all the different metals. Gold was a tough one to produce
