Slow drive……

Got out pretty early trying to take advantage of the windless morning for more of the fly rod. Ok in the bay but that fog rolled in off the ocean making moving around a slow challenge. Finally found some bass rolling and went 0-3 on hook ups. They just came unbuttoned. Wish I could get out of the mindset of lifting the rod for a hook set. Supposed to be a strip set!! Damn. Well, at least I fooled them to bite in some real skinny water. Boat touched bottom a few times. Success. Later found some bluefish and they were more than willing to destroy some flies!! Finally escaped the fog and was able to get up on plane and get back to port. Oh. And it was hot!!

Is the "strip set" the preferred method in the salt? I always used only a rod lift in the sweet water.

Caught lots of LM Bass, bluegill, Crappie during my many visits to the folks in FL plus plenty of Trout elsewhere. That was a ton of fun, but I can't imagine what it must be like to tangle with a Blue or Striper on the long wand!!
