Planned on getting an early start & fish the ebb in Plum Gut, fog & drizzle, mostly fog, changed that plan. Waited till about 10 & the weather cleared so set out to fish the flood, still overcast & dreary in the Gut I think that place has it's own weather pattern, at least it kept the boat count down less that 10 boats. Late start & other obligations I only gave it a little over two hours, ended the day with three bass all in the slot, all returned. Fortunately I didn't get stuck on the bottom, but I learned a new way to do just that, hook something heavy that's coming up. Snagged a 3 way rig that had been down a while, looked like a 1/2 oz bucktail tied with what looked like at least 100lb test mono, & a 18oz sinker.

You are so right, John, about the Gut having a weather pattern of its own.

I can't even count how many times on a foggy day I will leave Greenport with at least 1-2 miles visibility in all directions until I hit Ben's point. Once you are east of Ben's the curtain comes down and it takes considerably longer to burn off there than almost anywhere else, if it clears at all!!!

Glad to hear your perseverance paid off, eventually.
