One year older and more experienced, the boys took up right where they left off last year putting the hurt on the local Porgy population for the first 2 hours of the morning. Although the size has fallen off a bit of late the whole crew worked hard to put a dozen nice keepers in the box while enjoying C&R with many more fish.
Then we shifted our sights to the growing Weakfish numbers in the bay and we were richly rewarded for our efforts. Grandpa John led the way with a nice 3# keeper on the first drift as we found a very consistent bite near Shelter Island for the next 90 minutes. Everyone got in on the action and we closed out the morning with a full boat limit of Weakfish to 4.5#, plus a short returned to grow up for next season.
Nothing better than showing some young and enthusiastic anglers a great day on the water. I have a feeling they will be back again soon!!
