Best Morning This Spring

Don't know why, but life has just been getting in the way so far this season, checked my log & I'm way behind in trips. Got out early this morning for the flood tide in the Gut. Second drift was rewarded with a 30" slot fish which was put on ice. Another slot & a short, both returned, then THE hit, drifted into the rip holding on while the fish made her first long run, finally got the fish boatside & was able to reach over with needle nose pliers & get my bucktail out of her jaw, without lifting it out of the water. Next to the boat the bass was every bit of 40" & I would guess mid 30"s. Decided my old knees had enough & headed for the barn.

Too funny, upon folks finding out you enjoy fishing, they comment, "What a nice, relaxing sport!"I totally agree with your description, Roccus. You can't be daydreaming, looking at the scenery, or the pretty girl in the boat nearby and expect to catch while 3-way bucktailing. 😀
In reality, 3-Way Bucktailing in the Gut/Sluiceway/Race is a FULL CONTACT SPORT!!

I was actually on the 9 am Ferry out of Orient that morning and I thought I saw you there.
Happy to hear you enjoyed such a great battle and did the perfect release.
