I awoke early as I realized I still had some preparation before my early morning trip. Got in the truck and I am glad it knew the way as I was still shaking out the cobwebs. Grabbed some coffee on the way and got the boat ready. Boy is it windy in the marina. Usually very little wind is noticed. Got into the bay and realized the report was correct! I was hoping wrong as far as wind. Had a few half hearted looks in the bay and decided to make a run of the ocean. Ehhh. Let's give it shot over to the west side. Hold on! Made it out and yeah, the ocean was at least 3.5 with some 4 rolling in. Headed west and finally found some scattered bunker along with a few other hearty souls. Took some time to find any feeding fish as the surface activity was minimal, or at least, tough to see. Got myself some bunker and sent it back down and game on! Spirited fish ripping drag and felt like it was not going to stop. That fish used that 52 degree water full of oxygen to her advantage. Eventually she came into the net and after a quick interlude she went back to her home. She pulled the boga down to 34 pounds. The picture stinks, but I did not want to mess around and keep her out of the water. I tell folks on my boat, hold you breath while dehooking and pictures etc. A good reminder to get them back in the water real fast. Two other above slots made in in the boat and that was it. Left the bunker and now some dolphins / porpoises doing their thing. Took some of the bunker I had left and drifted the inlet for a bunch of bite offs from the bluefish. I did hook one big boy but at the boat those teeth destroyed the 60 flouro. Cleaned up the boat and headed home. Looking to be back this week before the weather rolls in.

Crushed the bass today on bunker pods outside FI. It was nonstop catching for two of us. We easily had 25+ fish. Largest fish was 49". Only a few slot fish, most were overs. We kept two for dinner.

Oh and that 49 inch fish, if fat with bunker, flirts with a magic number in pounds!

Find deeper troughs. Cuts in the bars and use darters. From a friend.

I like the "hold your breath while dehhooking and taking pictures" tip!

Will use it next time a guest treats a fish like it has lungs instead of gills!
