Circle Snaggers

These are being sold in NJ to comply with ASMFC mandate to use circle hooks when using bait for Striped Bass. Snag and drop Bunker livelining necessitates 2 rigs, this snagger eliminates that.... but is it legal? NJ DEC website states “Snag and drop” fishing for striped bass (when you snag a menhaden with a treble hook and immediately live line it) is now prohibited.

That looks like it conforms. Have not seen yet. Very interesting.

There was a similar product featured in the competition's paper (Cough... Long Island Fisherman... cough...) a few weeks ago. Two circle hooks snelled back to back with an egg sinker.

My friend was looking into it, but the company had it backordered.

We could make them ourselves, and will probably give it a try. But I'm interested to hear people's experiences trying to snag Bunker with circle hooks, who's chief selling point appears to be its resistance to random snagging.

How’s it gonna work on the snagging with those turned-in hook points? I really struggle to see it being effective. But I could be wrong. Anyone try such a contraption?

If you're into catching Bass with live bait, invest in a cast net. You'll spend more time fishing, less time snagging.
