I only went off shore fishing on a boat when I visited Florida in the past. Fished off bridges and piers down there and didn't see a soul fishing the intra coastal water way or a lot of people fishing off the piers. From Fort Worth fishing piers all the way up to St. Lucie Inlet area fishing Piers I've fished off the shore. The ocean piers had lots of fishermen. Was down there late Oct/Nov., Jan/Feb. and during May when I was down there the last 25 years .
So many guys fishing in Long Island bays , many more than in Florida . The East Coast of Florida looks mostly offshore fishing , not too sure about the West Coast.
Might move down there and buy a place , maybe bring down my 25 Panga . Those East Coast Florida Inlets look terrifying.

I'm on the west coast in Florida and the backwater and inshore fisheries simply can't compare to New Yorks. I've have fished backwater 6 times this season with nothing but a bunch of very small fish. A guy I was fishing with had a Super Slam - one very small snook, smaller trout, 11 a inch fluke and a decent redfish -18 inches. These guys were high fiving it over that.

I do enjoy the 50-110 feet depths here, with the wide aray of bottom dwellers. Between poor water managemnt, red tide and the loss of their eel grass, the backwater fishery is not what I originally expected.

All the times I fished inshore Florida, the Florida Keys was the best . You drop a chum bag in the water there and 5 minutes later there's a gazillion fish swimming near your boat. Great Sail fishing on the Reef as well .
I like how shallow it is off the West Coast. Thanks for the Info.

I remember fishing the Juno Pier and it was like fishing on a Party boat , lined with fishermen who were catching nice King Mackerel and Bluefish. Saw guys walk off with a barrel of fish. No doubt the offshore fishing is better, but inshore I didn't see much action the 25 years I've been down there on vacation. The Florida Keys should be considered inshore /bay and that's the only place I saw people fishing inshore on a Boat.
The most frustrating fishing trip I ever had was going SailFishing with my father on a 22 foot rental Boat. Fished out of Islamarada in January/Early February and all around us were charter boats reeling in one SailFish after another. Me and my father went all around trolling rigged Ballyhoo and not one hit. Trolled moderate speed, slow speed, nothing. So frustrating , I wanted to catch a Sailfish on my own. Caught Sailfish down in Mexico on a charter Boat. The charter Boats in Florida that day were trolling with Kites and rigged pilchards being pulled on the surface . Tourists like me and my father just didn't stand a chance.

110', isn't that like 25 miles out in the Gulf, not like 25 yards here?? Heck even both shores of LI don't necessitate that long a run to get into 110'...

Have you ever gone sailfishing in the Keys ? Very easy renting a boat there and fishing for them on the reef. Sometimes it's non stop action in early winter.

And sometimes you get a week where it's blowing 30 and you fish off the dock out of frustration. Happened to me twice!

I did that once. It was fun but just not my thing. I like holding a rod and setting a hook. I guess it's why I've really enjoyed bass fishing!
