Saturday found the Rick party put down their golf clubs for their annual half day fishing trip looking for Fluke. When I told them the Weakfish bite was hot, we opted to start there, and it was a good move. The crew landed 18 Weaks in just 90 minutes with 2 keepers up to 4#. The Fluke fishing section of the trip was better than Friday as we had the wind and tide cooperating. Only frustration was the overall size. While the guys landed a total of a dozen Fluke only 2 were keepers with Rick’s 22” fish being the best of the day.
Today I had Angleo and his granddaughter Avery join me for some red-hot Porgy action near Shelter Island. Like clockwork as soon as the chum started to flow the Scup were flying over the “rail and into the pail” While the number of jumbos is starting to drop a little, they still managed to cull 20 very nice platter sized Scup with at least a couple reaching the 3# mark.
I have a busy week with a few consulting jobs before next weekend’s charters but I do plan to find a way to take advantage of the excellent Bass fishing with the approach of the New Moon. Stay tuned for an update soon.
