ECO Kortz and National Marine Fisheries Service Officers board vessel on the Atlantic Ocean fo...jpg
On May 6, 7, and 8, ECOs Currey, Farner, Broughton, Veloski, and Kortz teamed up with Officers from the National Marine Fisheries Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for a joint enforcement detail in the federal waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This effort focused on highly migratory species regulations and gear compliance. The Officers checked tuna anglers for permits and vessels for compliance with safety regulations, uncovering federal violations, including the possession of out-of-season black sea bass.

They need to step up the fines for these violations.

looks like they are stepping up the level of enforcement this year, and that's a good thing.

I was boarded by DEC in Peconic on my first Scup charter this year a couple of weeks ago. Naturally, everything was in order and the officers were polite and professional.

I got "stopped" a few weeks ago while trolling.
They didn't make me stop and bring in the lines or create any issues.
We just shouted to each other from boat to boat and I showed them my life vests.
I must look like someone who didn't have any fish in their boat!
