All shorts today so today was my last day of fluke and it marks two years in a row of not catching a keeper. Don't now Why I even target them. To me it's a waste of time. Going to target sea bass and striped bass rest of the year.

It's hard getting keepers in the bay if that's where you fish. The last 2 years I caught 3 or 4 keepers. I hardly see any party boats fishing for Fluke inside Jones Inlet and they're mostly out there for meat , not action. . I see a bunch of party boats in Fire Island most of the time and they probably catch more keepers there than in the Jones Inlet area. My area Fluking is very similar to the Fluking where you fish.

Caught 2 shorts yesterday on gulp not even worth measuring. And there were fluke on board at or under 5 inches. I've caught bluegill bigger at kissena park than the fluke I just mentioned. I caught alot of short fluke this year. At least when your in the ocean you have a shot at sea bass blues stripers and other species for the dinner table.

One day I caught my limit of sea bass which was 3. Once I limit out I switched over to fluke and continued to catch sea bass and short fluke so it really doesn't pay.

Live peanut bunker on 1/2 to 3/4 oz. bucktails. Get a cast net, it's worth it. Free, live bait. Keep the faith. Tight lines.

There's an old adage: "10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish" .

Find out the when, where and how the 10% are doing it and I'm sure your successful trips will outnumber the bad ones!

We never stop learning
