Wife and kids were away. Left all to myself what should I do - GO FISHING!

Friday Night WE2 from about 6-8
Tough Night - Wind blowing 23 on shore (So the App said) Waves were 4-6 I knew it was gonna be a tough night. But since I was there - I strapped on 2oz and a white gulp 4 inch mullet and started casting. Got Plenty of distance, so the wind wasn't a problem, but the Fish biting was a problem. Grinding for quite a while for a single short fluke, He at least it wasn't a skink!

Sunday Morning WE from 7-10
OMG could not have been any nicer of a morning - Just 70 degrees. Wind out of the north at maybe 2 or 3. The water as just rolling except where the bars were, waves maybe 2-3 and just sliding up the shore....But the beach lip was there. So again I put on 2oz and the white gulp mullet. this was a totally different day. Lots of short fluke about 20 in all. and I only walked about 1/2 way to the jetty. There were bars and cuts and holes all over, just had to know what to look for and every time I found a fish!. Then it just got to easy. Switch to a 1oz green jig with a plastic green squid. and still caught, but this time it was a blue fish and another short fluke.

Let me tell you that narrow path to get down to the beach, between the Piping Plover nesting areas is a god send. The firm ground makes the walk so much easier than trudging down the main pathway. Used to stay away from the West End, just because of the walk - now it's not so bad and the beach lip has been there, unlike Field 6.

Damn I love a good few days of catching and not fishing!

Forgot - If I could only cast 40 yards instead of the 10 or so yards - I would have been into schools of something.

Anyone get out there - what was out there - Blues? LIttle Tunny? Spanish Macks?

maybe all of the above…

why ya casting only 30’ instead of 130’… what size pole ya using…?

my 11’ medium fast, 4oz bank sinker and head wind could do that with ease..
cellie…

The Bonita I caught last week were 4-5 pounds , Spanish Mackerel were 18-19 inchs, Blues 16 inch. Maybe I'll start trolling near the beach next time and troll out to the tankers for Fluke.

20 Short Fluke is fantastic for shore fishing. I always see a big crowd of surfcasters casting off the beach next to the East Jones Inlet Jetty. I see why it's so crowded .
