Just wondering is it too early for blue claw crabs or should I wait a few weeks for the water to warm up a bit. I will be crabbing in a shallow creek.

Agreed, give it to July maybe. Waters to cold and they are buried right now.

Years ago we used to catch plenty whilst flounder fishing up on the Remsenburg flats (Buoy 42) in Moriches Bay, right around Memorial Day. Them was the days, man!

That Bay produced a lot of fish for me over the years. From BlueClaws to big flounder in the winter and spring, to huge fluke and weakfish, and of course a great striped bass fishery. Them was the days!

I picked up a blue claw last Saturday on my first fluke trip of the year fishing off Bay Park in Island Park. He dropped off my line as I tried to swing him in the boat. It was the earliest I can remember seeing a blue claw.

The commercial crabbers are catching crabs in the GSB but it's very slow. Another few warm days and hopefully more begin to move around.
