Connecticut divers recently made a remarkable discovery by finding a long-lost experimental submarine, The Defender, at the bottom of Long Island Sound. Richard Simon, Vice President of Shoreline Diving Services, led the search for the submarine.

The team used a grappling hook thrown overboard from their research vessel to latch onto the sunken submarine. Once hooked, the divers descended along the line, ultimately finding The Defender. Upon resurfacing, the divers were met with a wave of excitement, as the discovery had been years in the making.

Simon and his team plan to continue diving and documenting The Defender throughout the summer, hoping that favorable weather conditions will allow them to gather more information and share their findings with the public. They are also working to get the submarine protected, as Simon expressed his desire to see The Defender eventually raised and placed in a museum for everyone to enjoy.

The discovery of The Defender not only provides valuable insight into early 20th-century submarine technology but also serves as an inspiration for further underwater exploration and the recovery of other lost maritime artifacts.
