300 is great ! I got stuck with 1100 something and my buddy got an even worse 1205. We are not even going to bother with his 8am appt on the 22nd, just do mine on Wednesday afternoon of the 21st. Do you know if we can hunt standby BEFORE we go on our regular reserved spot ? We actually saw deer in RP in late January last but no shot when we went standby. We skipped our regular reserved day as it was cold and wet. When Uncle paid me to be out in that shit its different.

Actually, our best number was my 1205. Reserved a spot on Monday the 9th, even with that crappy number. Never hunted it before but map and Google Earth recon looked promising. Checked it out in person (shhhh...) today before deciding it looked good and reserved it. Also confirmed that we can hunt standby in the DEC properties ANY day without having to wait until after our assigned/reserved day. Regardless, unless we gorge on fish and venison by January 9, I would have a hard time finding space in the freezers for anything large, which is a good problem to have.

My buddy got January 3rd in Hubbard county state park, only two parks are open this year Hubbard and Montauk so we will be going the second day of the season (shhhhhhh) we also checked it out last week and saw one doe just walking around never saw us we didn’t stick around so hopefully something happens, we have gone on standby it’s open everyday of the week I’m not sure what time they offer any open spots but I do know it’s after 8.00 o’clock it’s actually nice because you can head out on any nice day see what’s available put a few hours in and go home actually have seen quite a few deer doing this. Happy Holidays to you and your family I’m sure we’ll be chatting on here

Just too far to drive. takes me an hour to get to Ridge DEC. And most of the deer I have been fortunate enough to harvest over the years came after 9am so The DEC standby of 8AM which we have done before is fine by us. Sometimes I think its the early bird hunters that unknowingly push the deer into our assigned areas, lol. Honestly, if the weather is horrible on January 9, will skip it and do a standby, before or after. Standby on weekdays seems to be no problem as guys get stuck at work, etc. Every day is Saturday for me. (Now where did I see that before?)

What are the dates of the full season?Entire month of January. Might be less for the non-DEC areas (?)
Hubbard and other areas in Flanders are some of our prime cross country ski areas and I don't really wanna be in the woods pissing off hunters if it snows
