Hit the jones west end beach about 3/4 of a mile east of the inlet. Third surf trip with my son. The air was About 7-8 degrees cooler with the s/w ocean breeze . My son caught his first fluke ever. Released after quick picture. We probably will never try for kingfish there again as we still haven’t caught one. Beach looked fishy bait and birds etc: we must try somewhere else for the elusive surf kingfish - tight lines

We even went size 1 freshwater after size 1/0 saltwater , not sure something really small was taking our bait constantly……

We used squid as bait ,they didn’t have fresh clams at the bait shop. yes we are going to go again sometime the week of 8-13 , we are probably going to fish one of the beach’s near cap tree state park. Will get bait from wego on the north fork great tackle shop…….

We used squid as bait ,they didn’t have fresh clams at the bait shop. yes we are going to go again sometime the week of 8-13 , we are probably going to fish one of the beach’s near cap tree state park. Will get bait from wego on the north fork great tackle shop…….

Squid fairly tough… salt some clams , salt makes clams hard… get cheap table salt … cellfish…

When I fish for them in the bay I found a very small strip of squid works best,about 1.5 inches by 1/4 - 3/8 inch wide..
