Well, just about wrapping it up here on the boat. Great weather, little chilly in the shade when boat shifted. Had one short fluke and one nice one that I lost at the surface. Second time lined snapped today. After that I pulled a bunch off and tossed it. I never had that happen before. Still having issues with the arbor? Think I'm saying that right. I backed the bait caster with mono before putting braid on, but for some reason while reeling a fish in, the handle turns and nothing else. I'm gonna bring it to a shop and have them put new line on
Maybe I didn't do it tight enough.
Switched To my grappler setup and was tossing a single jig head with gulp on it. We came across a bluefish blitz and that rod was great catching Blues on
I ended up with one, about 2-3lbs. Nothing big and just the right size I like in blues. Couple of birds and some doggies rounded out the day. All in all just a great day-to be out on the water.

How is the drag on the reel?Drag is good. It's just weird that I can turn the handle and nothing happens.

Just trying to understand, when you turn the handle on the reel the spool does not turn or you just don't see any line coming in? My brother in law spooled up his reel a few years ago and the knot he used to fasten his new line to the spool just never got tight, when he turned the reel handle the spool turned but the arbor knot (all the line) just slipped around the spool. His fix was to unspool all the new line and stick a wrap of electrical tape around the empty spool. This time when he sinched up the arbor knot it bit into the tape holding it fast and tight. To test if there is a problem with the gears on the reel remove the line, put some drag on the reel, place your thumb on the empty spool and turn the handle. If your handle turns easily but the spool does not want to revolve your reel has an internal issue. Best of luck.

Since it's long past my ice hockey days, the only reason I have cloth electrical tape around is for spooling line...Penn has added a nice touch to it's spinning reels, in that they have a rubber center ring in the spools, no need for the tape. I'm assuming other companies are following suit, but I don't have any hard data...

I think it's just not tight.Save the empty line spools after putting new line on your reels, you can put a toggle bolt through the center and chuck the stud end into your drill. It makes removing line from your reels easy piesy, just spin the drill. Use two spools to easily reverse the line on your reels to get to the fresh stuff that never sees the light of day. ;-)

Issue was I didn't tighten the mono enough and I was missing a washer in the handle when I swapped them out...and this is why I don't do my own maintenance ?
