Have been waiting for these frosts as I really don't like sharing my ground blind with hundreds of ticks. Going to sign up for the Suffolk Co. January shotgun lottery again for the first time in a half dozen years. This year its a combination emailed request to enter followed by a date at which you appear at the Ridge DEC to choose your date and hunting spot.

running low on venison. when can I come over, lol ? Seriously, the deer on these properties with nuisance permits behave so differently, even during the rut. Being pressured 24/7/365 probably has a lot to do with it. Speaking of "do" I think many of the nuisance deer "do it" in the night !

Thats interesting that they must know they are being watched

Deer on nuisance permit properties are hunted by some 24/7/365. The term β€œwary” just doesn’t do them justice. I have done several years wherein I hunted a dozen days and saw just one deer.

I also applied for the shotgun hunt last year when I went out to pick my spot and check my license in, it was freezing out, I had to go in the afternoon as that was my time frame and they were backed up and not finished with the first group, see what day I get this year

Had a doe scare the crap out of me when I was metal detecting yesterday afternoon. Right next to a main road in the Bronx.
